Have you ever dreamed of flying through the sky on a bunch of balloons? If you can imagine it, you can draw it! Learn how to draw balloons with the help of this easy drawing guide.
A balloon is a familiar children's toy and party decoration, a symbol of birthdays, celebrations, and fun. But the balloon started out as a scientific tool. Michael Faraday invented the first rubber balloon in 1824 in order to experiment with gases.
Really, balloons trace their history back even farther, when humans filled animal bladders with air.

In cartoons and movies, bunches of balloons are sometimes used to lift a person or a character off the ground in the manner of a hot air balloon.
Examples include the film Up!, when many balloons were used to lift an entire house, as well as the time Winnie the Pooh used a large balloon to reach the honey bees high up in a tree.
Did you know? At least one person has flown through the air at the end of balloon strings. Jonathan Trappe has attached giant helium balloons to lawn chairs, boats, and even tiny houses.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing Balloons
1. Begin by drawing the first balloon. Start with an oval, like an inverted egg shape. At the bottom, enclose a small rounded shape. Below it, draw a small triangle. This is the tied end of the balloon.
2. Draw a second balloon. Start with an egg shape. This one is partially hidden by the first. Below it, enclose a small half-circle and a small triangle. Then, use a curved line to enclose the top of a third balloon behind the other two.
3. Use a curved line to enclose the top of a fourth balloon, mostly hidden behind the others. Then, draw a fifth balloon. It, too, should be partially hidden. Then, draw a small half-circle and triangle below it.
4. Use a curved line to enclose the top of yet another balloon. Then, enclose yet another balloon, its side hidden by the bunch. Enclose a small half-circle and triangle at the bottom of it.
5. Use curved lines to enclose the tops of two more balloons, partially hidden by the rest.
6. Draw long, curved lines descending from two of the balloons. These are the balloons' strings. The strings should converge and cross over one another. Draw a small circle to indicate a knot where the strings cross.
7. Draw two more strings descending from two more balloons. Again, they should converge at the knot.
8. Draw two more strings descending from the bunch of balloons, crossing the others at the location of the knot.
9. Draw three more strings descending from the balloons and crossing through the knot at the bottom.
Color your cartoon balloons. We've shaded ours in many, many colors. Blue, green, red, yellow, orange, purple, and pink... the colors are yours to choose from!
